Television and Radio
Agatha Raisin
After publication of The Quiche of Death in 1992, Agatha Raisin quickly rose to be the fans' favourite M.C. Beaton character. Readers immediately took to her irascible nature and political incorrectness, and the novels seemed a perect fit for television. In 2007, television production company Free@Last TV bought the option to the series. After pitching the show to ITV and the BBC, Sky television in the UK finally agreed to produce the series.
Hamish Macbeth
In the 1990s, M.C. Beaton's Hamish Macbeth novels were enjoying wide success in the United States, and it was only a matter of time before someone would attempt to adapt the series for television. The photogenic Highlands of Scotland would provide the perfect backdrop for a mystery series.
Agathaland
After the death of M.C. Beaton, the producers of the Agatha Raisin television series Free@Last TV wanted to produce a documentary that celebrated her life and work. Commissioned by Sky, Agathaland combined the behind-the-scenes story of the making of Agatha Raisin with M.C. Beaton's personal story, told through the words of those that knew her.
Agatha Raisin Radio
The BBC radio adaptation of Agatha Raisin is a comedy-drama series based on the novels by M.C. Beaton. The series was adapated by the writer David Semple, and stars the actress Penelope Keith as the titular character, Agatha Raisin, a retired PR executive who moves to a quiet village in the Cotswolds and finds herself solving various murder mysteries.
